Lisa Virtue [00:00:01]:
Lisa, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me today.
Lisa Duerre [00:00:05]:
Lisa, thanks for having me here and thanks for being named Lisa. We're going to say Lisa oh so many times. They're going to have to count this episode.
Lisa Virtue [00:00:12]:
I don't think the machines won't be able to tell who's speaking. It's going to be great. We'll trick them all. Which is why we're going to talk about today. We're going to get into AI. So I'm super excited. Before we do that, why don't you just introduce yourself to the audience and tell everybody a little bit of how you came to do the work that you're doing now.
Lisa Duerre [00:00:30]:
Oh, thank you. Yeah. So my name is Lisa Durie. I'm the CEO and co founder of RLD Group. That stands for Rebooting Leadership Drive. And we are a consulting and coaching collective focused on helping leaders be the best that you can be so that your organization thrives and your people don't burn out. I mean, that's like the bottom line of it all. That's how it started.
Lisa Duerre [00:00:51]:
It started with my own burnout experience as a leader. And they always say, like, your mess is your message. So once I figured out that there was systemic issues as well as my own personal boundaries and mindset around how I was showing up in the world, I decided to do something about it. We've been in business for nine years and in the last three, our focus has shifted from, you know, leadership development and burnout prevention. It's still there, but, but we've really embraced this experience of this AI acceleration. In the world of AI, we do not consult on which tool you choose or how you're going to put it into your workflow. We focus on leadership alignment, which is also, you know, preventing burnout. So it's not lost on me that it's evolving and we're, we're all evolving.
Lisa Duerre [00:01:36]:
But yeah, that's what we're doing now. We're spending our time very much focused on leadership systems and AI leadership alignment so that we have the top line impact and the bottom line results that are needed without losing the people in the process.
Lisa Virtue [00:01:51]:
I love it. You and I have so much in common. We've already joked about this. It goes beyond our name of Lisa and yeah, my tagline of crush goals without crushing souls like lines up right with what you're talking about. And I love to talk to people about AI because of course, top of mind, right? It's like the number one thing. And yes, just yesterday I Had something. I was getting ready for the day, and I had some, like, Instagram reels, I think, going on, and my husband was eavesdropping a bit, and he goes, wait. So everything popping up on my feed was like Oprah interviewing people about AI implementation.
Lisa Virtue [00:02:25]:
And, you know, the billionaires are building bunkers. And Oprah goes, they are. And I'm thinking to myself, like, you're a billionaire, Oprah. Aren't you building a bunker? It was just really funny how One deal, right? So funny. Yeah. And she's, like, acting shocked, you know, in her interview, you. And anyway, all of these. This feed just kept talking about people and AI and where people are worried about it, you know, and.
Lisa Virtue [00:02:49]:
And then there's all of this, like, push against it from certain younger generations, too. But they're on tik tok talking about it, and I'm like, wait a second. There's also environmental issues with the tools you're using. It's just fascinating me how this is going. And my husband chimes in, and he goes, well, if people were worried about it, they should have been worried about it five years ago.
Lisa Duerre [00:03:13]:
Your husband's a wise man. Honestly, it's been around for 20. So, you know, it's. It's really kind of interesting to think, like, I don't know, the impact of social media on how we view the world and what it all really means. And we are what we. We are what we let into our system, right? Just like with burnout prevention, we are. We are the thoughts, the people, the inside, the institutions, all that we let in will frame how we're looking at things. And we have a lot more in common than we think.
Lisa Duerre [00:03:39]:
And I think fear is ruling a lot of people's experience every day. And I love that your husband's like, well, then they should have been worried five years ago. I mean, it's a. It's a moment to pause, right? And go, huh? You know, what is true? And where am I letting my. I don't know, my amygdala hijack run my day, you know?
Lisa Virtue [00:04:00]:
Oh, absolutely. And both can be true. We know this, too, as practitioners with organization development, leadership development, that the tensions and the polarity, it happens all day long in our lives. And this is something that I think we miss teaching people in our school system. And so we, unfortunately, as older adults, we finally figure it out a lot of times, not always. And so it is also interesting because younger people get really riled up about their missions. We all did that in our development. And then you get to a Point of like, okay, yes.
Lisa Virtue [00:04:36]:
And. And okay, maybe we should have been worried about five years ago. If people are worried about it now, what should they do about it? And it's here, right? And this is. People are losing their jobs and they're not getting jobs because they're maybe opposed to having AI in their workplace. And it's very fascinating because it's all kind of coming to a head, isn't it?
Lisa Duerre [00:04:56]:
Without a doubt. I mean, it's so interesting because my. I was talking to my dad. He's like, you know, kid. And my dad's. My dad was my first leadership development coach. He was just like, you know what I mean? He didn't have the title, but every week we would meet, I would bring work stuff and he'd give me some advice, and we talked.
Lisa Virtue [00:05:11]:
So fabulous.
Lisa Duerre [00:05:12]:
He was like, you know, kid, what's going on in AI? You know, I keep reading about this all the time, and I. And I was like, at the point of, how do I explain this to someone who hasn't been along the last five years? You know, he's retired. He's doing the thing. He's a grandfather. Like, he's not worried about automating his menu planning, much less, you know, embedding it into the next release for the, you know, the computer chip that's coming out anywhere in between. He's living his life in Arizona, doing his thing. And I realized how lit up I got about, you know, oh, my gosh, like, all this amazing stuff is happening. And for me, I'm thrilled in the space that we get to have these conversations, because this is the eco center of whether it goes well or poorly.
Lisa Duerre [00:05:54]:
Leaders own the decisions. Leaders are setting the tone. Leaders are, you know. Well, in our research, it's like all hands on deck get. You know, they call it the arms race. Like what? Like, even that language has energy around it. So I said, well, you know, dad, leaders have a great opportunity here. And he's like, oh, you're having fun? I'm like, yes, I am having fun.
Lisa Duerre [00:06:14]:
Good. I love it.
Lisa Virtue [00:06:15]:
And that, this is my big messaging, as you know, too, is like, let's keep the heart and soul within the leadership decisions and your intuition, your gut, because that is what. We know this from history, we know this from best practices. Centuries of research that has been done is that the companies and the leaders that do well keep those things in mind.
Lisa Duerre [00:06:37]:
Without a doubt. Yeah. And, you know, one of the things that was on my heart lately has been with everyone worried about jobs and being laid off right because there's a lot of focus just on bottom line. I keep inviting leaders to think about top line. Where's the opportunity? How might you take this beautiful experience we call life and lived experience and use that to partner or collaborate with an AI thought partner, not just give it all to the bot. Right. And I was talking to this group that I work with a lot to help people return to work after taking a break. Specifically, there's a lot of women who, you know, stop working and take care of the family or elders.
Lisa Duerre [00:07:11]:
Then they want to reenter. And I work in tech most of the time. And we were talking about, like, it's a very cool time to have been a career breaker, if you will, because you have the space and not all the rush to learn all of this. Like you can implement it in your work life at home. Yeah. Running your day to day life and how the people that have the lived experience. This is where you brought me with your thought, was the lived experience is really important right now. I mean, I remember the 2008 crash.
Lisa Duerre [00:07:41]:
I remember all the booms and the bombs and the, you know, I've been through. I remember when, I remember when instant messaging first started. Like, I'm aging myself and dating it. But I've lived enough of these to go, wait a minute, there's always a lot of hype. There's a big spike. Then we start looking at everything. It goes back down and it levels out. And so sometimes having that lived experience and being able to presence that in conversation can just, I don't know, 10% reduce some of the anxiety that's so contagious in the system right now.
Lisa Virtue [00:08:09]:
Yes. Ooh, love this. Because it's, it's like a. Take a deep breath. Right. Even people listening to this, there might be a little heightened, like, I need to worry about AI and what's going on. And first, take a breath, take a beat, sit back. The rush that you might be feeling might be real because it might have been what was said affected your job.
Lisa Virtue [00:08:31]:
It might have been why a layoff happened. Although we know there's a lot behind that that's true or not true. And that's to be seen as we move forward. But I know your research too, t, you have dug into, like, why AI does not always get implemented well. It stalls out in the workplace. This is another thing that I also have noticed in my work. Keeping up with some of the social media trends within workplace and leadership. A lot of that's coming out too, of like, oh, the reason why you said the layoff was happening was because AI.
Lisa Virtue [00:09:05]:
But now, you know, you spent millions of dollars and it's not working out. You're going to have to hire all these people again. I think there's probably a lot of truth in a lot of organizations like that. But in your experience, where do you see conversations not happening soon enough when it comes to like, AI implementation and why it's fumbling?
Lisa Duerre [00:09:26]:
Yeah, thank you for that question. So my brain went seven different ways just listening to the lead in. In and I'm like, wow, it was, it was very eloquent what you said. So. So where are the conversations not happening soon enough? Is that where the bottom line question?
Lisa Virtue [00:09:41]:
Yeah. Or anything you want to react to?
Lisa Duerre [00:09:43]:
Yeah, yeah, I'm, I'm like, I'm trying to stay on the lane because this is my topic. This is. So we did RLD Group. I sponsored some applied research. We interviewed 25 executives across functions at the senior level, asking them, you know, what's working, what's not, what are some best practices you're implementing? Where do you feel stuck and lost and could use some support? You know, we really wanted them to get like, honest with us and so we really tried to use a very methodical approach and we asked everybody the same questions and we synthesized the data. The bottom line is there's no one answer to this. But I can tell you the three root drivers. One of them is an underdesigned conversations and collaboration.
Lisa Duerre [00:10:27]:
So there's three things contributing to the problem right now that we found. One of them is what we're calling under designed conversations. So maybe I'll start there because you're asking about the conversations. So what we see, what we hear, what we. In the research, as well as just our lived experience with our clients day in and day out, the pressure is so high and the rate of change and speed is faster than any human has the capacity to adapt to. And so even a leadership system that you're used to, if you were especially command and control back in the day. Right. That doesn't work anymore.
Lisa Duerre [00:11:00]:
And the leadership systems, the way the business operates, what is expected of leaders, isn't built for machine speed. So the conversations aren't happening fast enough with enough intentionality and the right people in the room, period. So you might have a government team and they're like watching over guardrails. Cool. But are they flowing that down to the end user? Probably not. You might have a small group being told, do whatever it takes, just make it work. And they're not sharing their learnings. It's not traveling across.
Lisa Duerre [00:11:29]:
And so one of the things we're working a lot with our organizational clients right now, and individual leaders too, honestly, is what is your cadence of conversation? Are you bringing curiosity in? Because most of the time they're just in tell mode, right? There's too much to do. I'm in back to back meetings, I have no time to think. And so back to your point. When we started, we're inviting the pause. Just yesterday I ran a two hour workshop for an entire city municipality. And we weren't even talking about AI. We literally just talked about conversations because that will transcend everything. And we spent time talking about where are you? Are you below the line? Are you above the line? Are you able to be creative? Are you stuck in reactivity mode? And that's real.
Lisa Duerre [00:12:11]:
So I would say the conversations, where they need to start is with each person first because we own our own agency. And the question really is, am I really intentional with my conversations? Am I staying curious? And I think that's a real important thing that people are missing because they're just so busy.
Lisa Virtue [00:12:31]:
Yes. And I have a client right now in the Bay Area. She works with implementing AI within organizations. Right. So she's on the tech side of IT and the tool side. And she brought up such a good point the other day and really educated me about how there's not just the race for companies to try and implement, it's also this power grab internally because in a lot of organizations it's really confused who's owning it, who's owning AI. You know, there's even some chief people officers that are now having bots in the org chart. And so all of a sudden they're adding technology to their titles.
Lisa Virtue [00:13:07]:
It's like, wait, you're human resources? Isn't it fascinating? And then there's legal and compliance and governance, and then there's the people implementing the tool. And so she said that what has been successful for her is exactly what you're describing, which is stepping back, realizing where people are at, really having those relationships built and have it be a partnership, not a power grab. And I thought that was really insightful.
Lisa Duerre [00:13:34]:
And I think that's what a great point you bring to this conversation. Because we're talking really about, you know, your pillars of heart and us looking at leadership as the antidote. The answer, if you will, to make AI actually work, it's through the people. I had a client tell me. I'm realizing we've spent more time thinking about people in the last three years than in the last 20, I was like, yay, that's really.
Lisa Virtue [00:13:57]:
And good.
Lisa Duerre [00:13:58]:
Really looking at it now, I'm like, thank you. The people in the system, right. And they're unique and they are complex and it's important that we factor them in. And what's going on behind the screen matters too. Like they're all living a life and they're all in this very anxious world right now that feels brittle. Right?
Lisa Virtue [00:14:18]:
Oh, you bring up such a good point. That if we can move through this period of time as humanity in a very intentional way, bringing our heart and soul to it. Excuse me, my allergies are kicking up all of a sudden. If we can do that in a very intentional way, like you said, we are learning like it's exponential what we can learn about humans because the AI is mimicking the human experience on so many levels and trying to accelerate it or make it more efficient. And so, yeah, such a beautiful opportunity.
Lisa Duerre [00:14:56]:
Yes, yes.
Lisa Virtue [00:14:58]:
And there's all these competing priorities which can muddle it. Right. But I do, yeah. 100 agree that we can learn so much and it can make the human experience so much richer.
Lisa Duerre [00:15:09]:
I think that if humans can collaborate with AI as a teammate and humans get to bring the best of what they. That only they have and can do, especially with all the experience that we have. Right. What a difference that can make in any system. And the system. The lens that we look at things through RLD group is three things we look at. I, the individual leader or individual person. Right.
Lisa Duerre [00:15:32]:
The person, we, the team and us the enterprise, the org. And that includes culture, processes, all the things. And I think that one of the, I guess the greatest gifts in this research and the conversations I'm so blessed to have, like this one is just taking the moment to remember the beauty of the human. Like AI is going to solve everything. But wait a minute, what are the humans doing? Like, it's kind of amazing. We are resilient, we are brilliant, we are creative. When we are in a space where we have access to our prefrontal cortex and we're not just in stressed out, burnt out front, freaked out mode work pretty amazing. And even when we're stressed out, burnt out, freaked out, I still got a lot done.
Lisa Duerre [00:16:13]:
But there's a cost, right? Because I missed opportunities to innovate and be creative and bring others along, that crates my soapbox now.
Lisa Virtue [00:16:21]:
Well, here it's our TED Talk today. We can both do it. I'm gonna add to that for just a second because I love to geek out and learn about the creativity and how that works, the best practices and how people get really creative. And the description, you started to go there a little bit. I want to add to it the prefrontal cortex where we have the right side and the left side. Right. We've got this creative side of our brain that's really, actually sits more in the back subconsciously. And so creatives tend to bring that forward a little bit more intentionally and like they, they lean that direction a little bit more.
Lisa Virtue [00:17:01]:
Majority of people in the workplace, you don't have an opportunity to do that. There's a lot of tasks and get it done. And deadlines, even creatives, you can say like graphic designers, it's usually more about task and on brand and it's not as creative as if you go into a space where you just don't have any deadlines and you just get to be in creative mode. So one thing they have learned is that when you walk away then you, your brain is still doing the work. And this is something I think is really interesting and I feel is very different than an AI tool which has to be prompted. I mean there is now this, this push to have the AI do things behind the scenes. But it's task oriented, it's very driven. It's more that left side of the brain, get it done logic.
Lisa Virtue [00:17:47]:
Right. But the beauty of the human mind is that when we walk away and we take a break, it continue. This is when we have aha moments we continue to have the puzzle pieces are being put together subconsciously and that is something we still don't quite understand as humans. And so how can we get a tool to be creative? And so this is again like the difference between an AI tool which could maybe help you learn about their creative, their creativity, learn about the subject matter. You're wanting to be creative within all of that. But then you need to do the human process which is allow your brain to do its magic. Right.
Lisa Duerre [00:18:26]:
Oh my gosh. I, I really appreciate you putting that into this conversation right now. The thing that it's so interesting to me that I don't know I'm going to sound, I'm going to be me. I was like, I'm going to sound woo woo. I am woo woo. I know energy works. I know how the brain works. Right.
Lisa Duerre [00:18:41]:
One of the things that I find that when I was doing all of the work in Burnout and I continue, continue to do is you know that when we reboot, right, we take that pause how much more powerful we are. And every conversation I have, especially in when they're engineering teams. I love them so much. I'm like, okay, let's just do three deep breaths. You know, in a coaching thing or in a workshop, we're running it. Why am I breathing? I'm like, listen, like. And you have to help with the science to connect them to go, oh, wait, that's a high performance move. That's actually going to help me be more creative.
Lisa Duerre [00:19:13]:
So any tip or trick that we can land in any conversation, I will geek out with you all day. Because we are not taught this. And we are rewarded, especially in the tech organizations for output. Right. And we forget that. Oh, my gosh. That means I need to partner with my body and mind to be able to make that happen.
Lisa Virtue [00:19:33]:
Yes. And that. I love to lean into that with leaders too. Where I'm like, hey, it's gonna feel like cheating.
Lisa Duerre [00:19:38]:
Actually.
Lisa Virtue [00:19:38]:
It's part of the work.
Lisa Duerre [00:19:39]:
Yeah.
Lisa Virtue [00:19:40]:
Taking a pause, Working on your breathing, working on your body. I'm right there with you. And when. Yeah, when leaders. When that clicks for leaders, instead of task, task, task, get it done, get it done. And they can have a different flow and energy. You know, in heart set, there's the A, which is action. And it's taking action at a cadence that makes sense for the organization and others.
Lisa Virtue [00:20:02]:
But also it's about you.
Lisa Duerre [00:20:03]:
Right.
Lisa Virtue [00:20:04]:
Like, when do you need to be on and when should you actually pull back? And I think in this land of AI, we're having a hard time. Most people, I think, are having a hard time allowing leaders to have that time and space versus it's kind of coming down the funnel of like, you've got to figure this out and adopt this thing. We just spent millions of dollars on investments. Like, now go figure it out. And there's so much pressure.
Lisa Duerre [00:20:30]:
So much pressure. Yeah. I have one client I love so much. He. He'll text me when he took a nap during the day.
Lisa Virtue [00:20:37]:
Love it.
Lisa Duerre [00:20:37]:
I did it. I took a nap. Like, yes. Right. And now can everyone take a nap? No. We know there are certain jobs that is never going to happen, but he's an executive and he's got a lot going on. And I'm like, when do you do your best thinking? He's like, right when I wake up. And I'm like, perhaps a nap might be part of your process.
Lisa Duerre [00:20:54]:
Right. And I did a nap. Like, yes. This is just. That's the beauty of it. Executive level, you know?
Lisa Virtue [00:21:00]:
Yes. I. I did that in college. I would nap during finals week a lot. I found myself just exhausted and I would let Myself and I would get straight A's, and my engineering roommate, she'd be pulling all nighters, her hair's falling out like she was struggling.
Lisa Duerre [00:21:16]:
Yeah.
Lisa Virtue [00:21:16]:
It's so fascinating. Oh, love it.
Lisa Duerre [00:21:19]:
Yeah.
Lisa Virtue [00:21:20]:
Okay. I would love to get back a little more to your research too and what you've been working on with publishing because you, I know you have a new book as a quick start guide to bridge the Human and the tech. Right. I'd love to have you talk about that and what leaders need to understand about that bridge. So we're getting there, but can you expand on that a little bit more?
Lisa Duerre [00:21:41]:
Yeah. Thank you for the question. So the three root drivers we found in the research, this will bridge for us. Okay. The first is silos that, you know, individuals and teams are not. The learning isn't crossing over. There's parallel use, there's duplicate work. Right.
Lisa Duerre [00:21:55]:
There's unlimited tokens. And all of a sudden it's like, wait, how much did we spend? Okay, do you really need to use that Silos? Right? That needs to be. We used to tolerate them, we can't tolerate them anymore. Right. The workflow has changed. AI is forcing that and AI amplifies whatever's in your system anyway. That's our point of view. Silos is the first.
Lisa Duerre [00:22:13]:
The second is lack of explorer mindset, meaning what we were talking about earlier, is it safe to fail? Is it safe to play? Is it safe to explain experiment? And are the leaders modeling that? Yeah, right. Are the leaders saying, oh my gosh, I thought I could just get my QBR deck done in five minutes and I dumped everything in there and it came out so sloppy, it took me three times longer to fix it. Like, that's real. So having those conversations matter and creating the safety to play and share your learnings or your mishaps or your assumptions that didn't prove to be true really matters. And the third is the under designed conversations and collaborations so that pull through, really. We were like, how can we help people? This is great. If I say it and everyone nods and go, yeah, that makes sense. But what are you supposed to do about it? What can you do about it? So there's two things.
Lisa Duerre [00:23:04]:
The first is in our research paper, we. I didn't want people just to leave with something to read and be, you know, smart about. We like, no, we want to give you something. So there's a diagnostic tool in our research that you can look at it and start to look at what's working, what's not, and small moves you can make and the more we started working that with clients, they were like, is there a book coming? Like, can we have more? We need something a little more than this two page, front to back jumpstart. So of course we'll work with you on that. Yes. But you know, people like to do it themselves. It's fine.
Lisa Duerre [00:23:36]:
So what's coming out probably in the next month. It's close. Is a book that is specifically around the conversation piece. So we partnered with the authors of the book Conversations Worth Having, and we co created a Jumpstart Quick Start guide for leaders. Through looking at how to partner with AI and how to bring the best of humanity forward and how to leverage AI not at a tool level. These are questions. This is a process. It's a, you know, an opportunity for you to dig deep and reflect on it.
Lisa Duerre [00:24:07]:
And I couldn't be happier because it was really built based on the need being expressed because each thing we would put out there was still I want more. So this Quick Start guide is not a full blown book, but it's more than a back, you know, front to back jumpstart. So it's coming and I'm. I have most people that have already read the pre. Re. The preview. What do you call it? A pre read.
Lisa Virtue [00:24:27]:
Pre read.
Lisa Duerre [00:24:28]:
They're like, okay, can I have it now? And I'm like, I'm sorry, it's not ready with the publisher. Like, I'm so frustrated with my own, like, sense of like, I wish I could show it to you right now, Lisa, and say, here's your copy. Right? Yeah, yeah, it's close. It's in final review with the publisher.
Lisa Virtue [00:24:42]:
I love it. Me. And by the time we go live with this episode, it might be out, but we'll definitely leave it either have pre order information or ordering in the show notes for sure.
Lisa Duerre [00:24:52]:
Oh, thank you.
Lisa Virtue [00:24:52]:
Yeah, I'm excited too, as a coach and consultant to dig in and use that tool.
Lisa Duerre [00:24:57]:
I would love your feedback on it. And I, I really do believe that this is something because I'm not here. Like, oh, let's go. Keep it behind a firewall and charge 700. No, we. My. If my legacy is anything, I hope it's helping people elevate humanity, you know, like as a leader. That is part of your role.
Lisa Duerre [00:25:14]:
So here it comes. I'm very excited.
Lisa Virtue [00:25:16]:
Oh, congratulations. Getting that over the finish line. Amazing. Okay, so you've been already giving such great tips, but I do have a very specific question for you for leaders who feel overwhelmed by AI because we know a lot of them are Listening right now. What is one practical conversation? So maybe taking one thing out of that book or that quick start guide that they could start this week to create more clarity, trust, alignment, whatever it is that you feel compelled to share what's coming up for you.
Lisa Duerre [00:25:46]:
Wow, that's a really awesome question. So the thing is, everybody's at different phases of their journey and I think the best place to start is a conversation with your yourself. You know, who am I currently with when it comes to AI? What are the beliefs I hold, what are the wins I've had, what are my worries, my frustrations? Like if you're sitting down with your best friend over a cup of coffee and they go, how's it really going? Like, have that conversation with yourself because that's going to help you see really where you are. Because I think we, we tend to check out, we're like working from the neck above and we just keep going. And that reflection, especially if you were to do that, I don't know, go outside and put your feet in the grass and have that conversation as very different than in your, you know, in your cubicle or your office. But give yourself the space and I don't know, 15 minutes, ask, you know, who am I with AI today? And then who do I want to be with? A.I. right. What is, what is the, the impact I want to have? And then my favorite question of all time is how might I.
Lisa Duerre [00:26:48]:
So it's what's my current state, what's my future state and how might I get there? I mean, that's the bottom line of this. I think that's the best place you can start because you have the most control over yourself, over your thoughts, over your own agency in your life. And I don't think you can go organizationally at that enterprise level until you're really clear about the bias you bring, the strengths that you bring, the fear that's living inside your system as a person. Because when you're clear on that, then you can take everything that's great, all those wins you want to protect, and try and shift the needle more for yourself.
Lisa Virtue [00:27:23]:
Perfect answer. You know, it lined right up with heart said again, be human is first, right? Really first?
Lisa Duerre [00:27:29]:
Yeah.
Lisa Virtue [00:27:30]:
Understand yourself.
Lisa Duerre [00:27:31]:
I was looking at your pillars and I said to myself, I'm like, this is lining up between silos and lack of explorer mindset and under designed conversations. The essence of your heart set framework will help leaders navigate all of that.
Lisa Virtue [00:27:45]:
Yeah, it's wonderful.
Lisa Duerre [00:27:46]:
So I was like, I love it. Transparent. I just said, show your failures right? Relate hey, here's where I'm struggling. How about you act, do something about it? Take that one small action. Elevate. Bring others along for the ride. Elevate yourself too, I would think. And be human.
Lisa Duerre [00:28:00]:
Yeah, go. I just said go. Assess where you're at. So exactly. Of course we're aligned.
Lisa Virtue [00:28:05]:
Of course we are.
Lisa Duerre [00:28:07]:
Heart, baby.
Lisa Virtue [00:28:08]:
Heart.
Lisa Duerre [00:28:08]:
Right.
Lisa Virtue [00:28:08]:
That's where Lisa, bring that heart. Yeah. Bring that heart forward and then it connects with others.
Lisa Duerre [00:28:12]:
Yep.
Lisa Virtue [00:28:13]:
Again, this is our differentiator. Like I will stand on a mountain and continue to screen. Like, there are some people that don't agree with me in the world, but I. This is where I really believe in humanity. And our differentiator is that we can do these things and AI as great and as close as it can get. It doesn't have a heart and soul.
Lisa Duerre [00:28:34]:
No. And you know, it's so interesting. I'm sure you're familiar with heart math. Mm. Right? So when I think about heart math, all that I learned about like the heart's energetic system and this is all about intuition for me too. Because one of our. One of our models that work is, you know, we need to increase our intuition because we have that. That requires presence.
Lisa Duerre [00:28:53]:
My point is, when I was reading your heart framework and thinking about all of this, you know, one of the things we help people do all the time is just breathe into your heart. Right. That's one of the heart math lock in techniques like breathe into your heart.
Lisa Virtue [00:29:06]:
Yeah.
Lisa Duerre [00:29:07]:
Reconnect. Reboot your operating system and get back in there.
Lisa Virtue [00:29:10]:
Isn't it amazing, these organs that if just looking at it from an anatomy standpoint, you don't realize like even just humans talking about like, oh, love. Where is that coming from? Like, there's physiological places. It happens in our body and it's. I just. The heart fascinates me because there has been some research done on it and heart math is a great one to talk to. And we still. Again, it's one of those things just like when you go into a room and there's an energy in the room. Y can't quantify it, you can't measure it, but you sure can feel it.
Lisa Duerre [00:29:48]:
You can feel it. Yeah. We talk about all the time in reboot. Right. Which is one of our acronyms. It's own your energy and optimize for alignment. Right. And that means be present and feel.
Lisa Duerre [00:29:58]:
Because your body will tell you before your brain will.
Lisa Virtue [00:30:01]:
Yep.
Lisa Duerre [00:30:01]:
You know when you get that stomach gut punch and you're like, oh, I got that email, like, that was not your Brain or oh, I just called a meeting. You're going to feel it first. And the more we can allow ourselves to really recognize that's the human experience as leaders, then you start to think about the humans in your org and they're all, they're all getting that email going. What's that mean? You know, okay. And then how can you possibly get the best out of people if they're living in that below the line, kind of feared, tightened experience? Like, how can you, how can you possibly be high performing? You have to pay attention to the somatic side. For sure.
Lisa Virtue [00:30:36]:
I agree 100%. And that's why we coach, because we help people, why we're here, why we do what we do.
Lisa Duerre [00:30:45]:
Yep.
Lisa Virtue [00:30:46]:
Because it's too easy. And I'm sure, you know, you experience burnt out burnout too. And I have as well in career. And it's when we're driving so hard.
Lisa Duerre [00:30:54]:
Yeah.
Lisa Virtue [00:30:54]:
And our brain can only do so much because you need the whole body.
Lisa Duerre [00:31:01]:
Yeah. And like, how fascinating that our bodies shut down to protect us and we get mad at them. Like, really? What are you trying to tell me? Body? Oh, okay. You mean I haven't had any food or drank any water today? I've just been in meetings. Yeah. Okay. No wonder you're shutting down. That's not good, you know, Right.
Lisa Virtue [00:31:17]:
Oh, that reminds me of the pandemic when I was sitting at the dining room table one day and we had meetings all day long and I looked at my husband after about 12 hours and I went, have I gotten up today? Did I even go to the bathroom? I was not aware. I was just so in it because everyone was right. Just panicking.
Lisa Duerre [00:31:36]:
What do we do? Yeah.
Lisa Virtue [00:31:37]:
And I know a lot of leaders are dealing with that in their workplace right now, so part of the work. It's the body work. Beautiful. Well, Lisa, thank you so much for coming today. Before we wrap up, is there anything else you wanted to make sure listeners heard from you as far as messaging or anything?
Lisa Duerre [00:31:57]:
You know, I would say I. The thing I always like to just leave people with is you're not alone. I know it's lonely. It's so lonely. As a leader, you're so worried about everything and you have such, it's such a gift to be in a leadership role and it's tremendous responsibility and I consider it, you know, sacred work, honestly, being a leader. But I just want to, if anyone listening here is just feeling alone in it, like, oh, my invitation for you is find someone to talk to that you trust, whether it's a friend, a neighbor, a colleague, you know, share a couple of wins. You can be proud of your work. And if you want to be a little vulnerable, that's okay, too.
Lisa Duerre [00:32:30]:
Like, it's. You're doing big things in the world. Leadership is lonely. So do your best to make it a little less lonely. Be conscious of that because it will make a big difference for you.
Lisa Virtue [00:32:40]:
Yeah, 100%, I agree. And this is also why there's coaches. Because then if you know your loved ones are sick of hearing it.
Lisa Duerre [00:32:51]:
Mine were right, so happy when I got a coach, like, same. I got a therapist after the coach and I had two people. They're like, this is great.
Lisa Virtue [00:32:59]:
Right?
Lisa Duerre [00:33:00]:
Yeah. Okay.
Lisa Virtue [00:33:01]:
Right? Yeah. Then you can be really present when you're with your loved ones. Yeah, exactly. So how can people get a hold of you, Lisa?
Lisa Duerre [00:33:08]:
So I do a lot on LinkedIn if you want to find me there. We. We live stream our podcast there. You can join in on the conversation anytime. So, Lisa Durie. It's D U E R R on LinkedIn. We also do on our website, give, you know, free things of away for leaders if they want them. So it's RLD Group LLC.com and I have a YouTube channel that my daughter always laughs at me about my subscribers because I'm no Mr.
Lisa Duerre [00:33:34]:
Beast, but we do have a YouTube channel that I believe based on the feedback I've gotten, there's really great videos on there you could use as a team meeting, a really quick briefing, you know, a shot in the arm if you're driving. You know, I know there's a lot of different things out there, but those are the three places where we tend to put our thought leadership out. So LinkedIn, our website, and YouTube.
Lisa Virtue [00:33:55]:
Beautiful. And you've got a book coming and based on research.
Lisa Duerre [00:33:58]:
Got the quick start guide coming? Yes, yes, yes.
Lisa Virtue [00:34:00]:
Amazing. Or it's already out. I don't know.
Lisa Duerre [00:34:02]:
Because I know right where it's already at. For we are bending time. And when you listen to this, go grab your copy.
Lisa Virtue [00:34:08]:
Exactly. Yes. Go grab your copy now. In the show notes. Love it. Thank you so much for coming. It's been such a pleasure and I hope this is just the first of many conversations we get to have.
Lisa Duerre [00:34:20]:
Thank you, Lisa. It's an honor to be here and thank you for your Heartset framework. It was a beautiful way to bring my thoughts into this conversation, so I appreciate that so much.
